In 2004, as our church became a more frequent place of support for homeless individuals on Ventura Boulevard, the SOPC Mission Commission decided to establish a strong connection to the San Fernando Valley Rescue Mission (SFVRM) in three ways in order to support a homeless ministry:
1. We keep a Food Barrel located in the foyer of the church to collect non-perishable foods and hygiene items for homeless and hungry Valley residents. Please help by replenishing it regularly!
2. The first fruits from the SOPC Mustard Seed Fund ($1000!) were given to the Mission Commission in February 2005, who will use $500 to support SFVRM’s ongoing efforts to address homelessness and hunger in our valley.
3. SOPC members volunteer each Wednesday night at one of the local churches that shelters homeless families. (If you can’t make Wednesday night, contact Lisa Patriquin or Sara McCurdy for the locations of other churches and synagogues that provide shelter through SFVRM supervision every night of the week!)
