In response to the aftermath of the tsunami in Southeast Asia in December 2004, the members of SOPC and the Mission Commission joined efforts with Presbyterian Disaster Assistance. Contributions were used to buy items for and ship forty-four tsunami relief kits and a cash donation. Our congregational gift joined that of other Presbyterians for a total of more than $4 million.
SOPC also raised a little over $500 for the annual One Great Hour of Sharing offering. A portion of the One Great hour of Sharing goes to each of three organizations: Presbyterian Disaster Assistance, Presbyterian Hunger Program, and Self-Development for the People.
